Laparoxcopic Inguinal Herniorrhaphy Using a Polypropylene Mesh

Abstract
23 laparoscopic inguinal hernia repairs were performed in 21 patients at the Department of Surgery of Surgery of Seoul Eulji General Hospital from November 16, 1992 to December 31, 1993.
@ES The results are summerized briefly as follows;
@EN 1) The male to female ratio was 19:2, of whom the fifth decade was the most common age.
2) Location of inguinal hernias were Right side(11 cases), Left side(8 cases), and Both sides(2 cases).
3) Types of henia were Indirect 21(91.3%), and Direct 2(8.7%).
4) Types of repair included plug only (4.3%) and large stapled patch(95.7%).
5) 84% of unilateral repairs were performed in less than 90 min.
6) Fifty-two percent of patients required little or no analgesics.
7) Only 2 significant complications occured in this series, including a subcutaneous hematoma in right groin area which absorbed spontaneously and one case of pneumonia which controlled by antibiotics.
8) Disability was only 4~10 days in 89% of unilateral inguinal hernia patients.
9) One case(4.3%) of recurrent hernia was found at 2 months postoperatively.
This new technique offers minimal incision, minimal pain, and minimal disability.
